From the Pastor
December 2008
The people who have walked in
darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep
darkness, on them light has shined. (Isaiah 9:2) - Light a candle during this Advent season. - Light a candle and stave off the darkness as the days grow short and cold and the night seems to rule. -
Light a candle on December 01 and stave off the darkness of HIV/AIDS,
malaria, tuberculosis and other preventable diseases ravaging the world. - Light a candle and stave off the darkness of war and its by-products of hunger, displacement and terror. -
Light a candle on December 06 and stave off the darkness of violence
against women. Remember Saint Nicholas whose generosity in the fourth
century liberated three sisters from the horrors of prostitution; and
remember fourteen women killed in the Montreal Massacre of 1989 for
having the audacity to pursue a traditionally male field of study. -
Light a candle and stave off the darkness of fear and its by-products
of suspicion, withdrawal and loneliness when good economic times turn
bad. - Light a candle on December 10 and stave off the darkness of
illusory power and control, and remember Thomas Merton who said, “The
Advent mystery is the beginning of the end of all in us that is not yet
Christ.” - Light a candle in Advent and know that the true light has
come into the world. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness
did not overcome it.
May you have a blessed Advent and a Christmas filled with the Light of Life. Peace, Pastor Brian
